Dubai Location & Geography:

Dubai is situated between 25°16′ North and 55°18′ East. It lies on the eastern coast of the Arabian peninsula to the south-west of the Arabian Gulf, with a coast of about 72 km length. Dubai is the second largest emirate, and covers an area of 4.114 square kilometers. Known as the capital of UAE’s economy, Dubai shares borders with Abu Dhabi in the south, Sharjah in the northeast, and the Sultanate of Oman in the southeast.

The topography of Dubai is significantly different from that of the southern portion of the UAE in that much of the city’s landscape is highlighted by sandy desert patterns, while gravel deserts dominate much of the southern region of the country.

Dubai Weather & Climate:

Located in the northern desert belt of Southwest of Asia, Dubai’s has a tropical desert climate. Summers are extremely hot and humid with an average high around 41.8 °C and overnight lows around 29.7 °C. Most days are sunny throughout the year. Winters are warm and short with an average high of 23 °C and overnight lows of 14 °C. Most of the rainfall occurs during winter.

Due to the Arabian Gulf’s shallow waters, humidity is high in Dubai with annual average of 59% to reach its peak in January and February, registering 65%. There may be strong winds occasionally which can raise storms of sand and dust.

Dubai Culture:

Dubai’s culture is rooted in Islam, providing a strength and inspiration that touches all aspects of everyday life. Simultaneously, increasing globalisation and the settling of various immigrant groups have transformed the city into a melting pot of different nationalities and have given rise to a cosmopolitan culture that is in synch with other global cities.

The UAE culture mainly revolves around the religion of Islam and traditional Arab culture. The influence of Islamic and Arab culture on its architecture, music, attire, cuisine and lifestyle are very prominent as well. It is highly important that when tourists visit Dubai they must respect and behave suitably, as the minority group of Emiratis are very protective over their culture and traditions.

Dubai Economy:

from petroleum and natural gas currently account for less than 5% of the emirate's gross domestic product. Dubai has changed dramatically over the last three decades, becoming a major business centre with a more dynamic and diversified economy. Dubai enjoys a strategic location and serves as the biggest re-exporting centre in the Middle East.

Its low logistical and operational costs and excellent infrastructure, international outlook and liberal government policies are attracting investors in a big way. Activities such as trade, transport, tourism, industry and finance have shown steady growth and helped the economy to achieve a high degree of expansion and diversification.

Dubai Flora & Fauna:

The sandy desert surrounding the city supports wild grasses and occasional date palms. Desert hyacinths grow on the sabkha plains (the salt crusted coastal plains) east of the city, while acacia and ghaf trees grow in the flat plains close to the Western Hajar Mountains. Several indigenous trees such as the date palm and neem as well as imported trees like the eucalypts grow in Dubai’s natural parks.

Contrary to popular believe the desert is teeming with life of all shapes and sizes. Many of these species have unique and fascinating adaptations to survive in what can at times be a harsh environment.
